I’m Denise D. Adams (DD), a native of Winston-Salem and a passionate servant of  the community. I’ve served as Council Member for the North Ward of Winston-Salem since 2009, and currently serve as Mayor Pro Tempore, Vice Chair of the Finance Committee and Chair of the Community Development/ Housing/ General Government Committee.

I support policies that serve our communities: a safe, healthy city, a strong economy and well-educated workforce. I believe that within
our local communities and in our greater society, we all benefit when families and individuals are able to achieve their highest potential.
I know that:

● Healthy, well-nourished children are better students than those whose physical and mental needs are unmet.

● Well-trained, healthy employees offer their best work, contributing to increased economic growth.

● Communities with well-employed citizens, good schools, affordable healthcare, accessible housing, and a thriving economy promote citizen involvement and improve the quality of life for all.

Economic Growth and Stability

Job growth is one of the government's most important functions. Stimulating our local economy requires creating an atmosphere for companies to grow, build, and employ, and for entrepreneurs to explore, create, and build. It requires communities to have at least a pool of trained or trainable workforce, the required infrastructure, and access to markets. Each community in the city of Winston-Salem has challenges and unique personalities. Establishing and supporting small businesses, creatives and artists can strengthen the fabric of our city. It requires a unified effort, working together across each community, to build sustainable growth and eliminate poverty.

Accessible Housing

With a comprehensive approach, I've advocated for policies that encourage the development of affordable housing units, promote responsible urban planning, and collaborate with local stakeholders to create sustainable solutions. I recognize the significance of affordable housing in fostering inclusive communities and understand that a lack of affordable options can lead to economic disparities. Through strategic partnerships and evidence-based initiatives, my goal is to prioritize affordable housing as a fundamental aspect of community development, ensuring that residents have access to secure and affordable living spaces. My commitment to
this issue reflects a dedication to creating equitable and thriving neighborhoods
for all residents.

Reimagined Public Safety

I support an informed approach that emphasizes the importance of healing, trauma, and safety. We should ensure that the City continues to engage and support victims and perpetrators, service and treatment providers, law enforcement officials, and others. We must continue to seek funding to
provide violence intervention and prevention programs to communities in order to develop coordinated and comprehensive community-based approaches.

Sustainable Environment

I support the development and redevelopment. of land in a manner that will meet our future needs while protecting our natural areas and resources.
Low-impact development and the LEED program are examples of ways in which we can achieve this goal. We need to increase energy conservation and efficiency in all sectors of development to promote a sustainable energy future. Our community can move toward accomplishing this goal by using renewable energy resources such as solar, utilizing federal home weatherization, using more alternative fuel vehicles, and reducing overall energy use as individuals and a community, with the understanding that we educate our community on how we get there together.

“Mayor Pro Tempore DD Adams knows how to get things done. She’s proven that on the Council time and time again.”
